Due to external political conflict a recall election was held on July 16, 2011 and 4 of the members named were on the ballot and each recall passed.
The Kiowa Business Committee deemed the recall election as "illegal" claiming the recall procedures were not followed.

2013  State of Kiowa Affairs
There have been relatively few articles in the paper regarding the state of the governing body of the Kiowa Tribe.  The last article written was that the Chairman, Ronald TwoHatchet had resigned. The Kiowa Indian Council prior to his resignation had recalled by vote the entire Kiowa Business Committee with the exception of the committee member, June Artichoker.  However, the Bureau of Indian Affairs was still recognizing the recalled members and therefore there is no evident Kiowa Indian Council recognized Kiowa Business Committee with the exception of June Artichoker.  Amber Toppah had announced that she is recognized as the "Acting" Chairwoman of the Kiowa Tribe.   But as to date there has been no official swearing in for the recalled Business Committee to remain in office.  The Kiowa Tribal Complex is open for business operating under the supervision of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  So the true government is still unrecognizeable.
